Thank you to everyone who endured less than perfect conditions for the second annual Potato Creek Trail Runs. I think 2012 will be remember as the "Sleet" year because as the race got underway the sky's opened up with freezing cold rain and sleet for the first 2 hours.
Guess the Gap Winner: James Kaminski of Michigan City. James guessed with in 32 seconds the gap in time from the first half marathon finisher and the first Ultra finisher. It was a great guess as James was the second person on the list behind Larry Bigler. James wins the Nike + tomtom powered GPS trainer.
The numbers: The Gap in time was 4:51:22. Jame's guess was 4:50:50. Nice job!

Race Day Instructions: The race will begin promptly at 8 AM EST. The start/finish area is the Orchard Shores East picnic area. In the event of overflow parking, please use the large parking lot located a few hundred meters up the hill at the Nature Center. There should be ample parking in these two lots. Please do not Park on the grass this year. We will have a mandatory meeting at 7:45AM to go over the course and address any concerns you may have. Bathrooms are located at the Orchard Shores picnic area (vault toilets) and flush toilets and running water are just up the hill at the Nature Center.
Drop downs in events will be allowed this year. If at anytime you need to drop down to the next event you may do so; but, you must announce your intentions to the nearest A/S captain. Your finisher award will show the corrected distance.

We will have a/s cut offs for this years ultra event. Runners must leave the Horseman's a/s by 3:45PM, outbound Nature Center by 4:15, Peppermint A/S by 5 PM.
Basically runners must maintain a 15 minute mile when leaving Horseman's a/s at 3:45 PM.
I am not in the business of forcing people to drop and every effort will be made to accommodate the runners.
If you have any questions or concerns please give me a call or email.
See you all at the race!

Deadlines, Emails, and Giveaways
Ok people, the deadline for an engraved finisher medal is this Monday at 5PM EST. So if you are on the fence about this race just know that after Monday the 23rd we will only take race entries for the 1/2 marathon. Also, any entries for the half after this date will have a blank medal with out your name on them. I've gotta draw the line somewhere, and that somewhere is this coming Monday.
Tomorrow after all my kids soccer activities are finished I will be out at the park re-running, and certifying the course. Making absolutely sure of the distances, and the locations of each aid station. The course is 98% ( give or take) complete. Please know that once this is established for 100% I will be sending out a email to all entrants with the course info, park info, and info for packet pick up with exception to D. Schmidlapp from Plymouth Indiana who didn't put his email address on his mail in entry. :-) I guess I will call him.
We will once again offer the "GUESS THE GAP" contest during the race this year. This is a contest where you the runners have to write out the amount of elapsed time between the first half marathon finisher to the first ultra finisher. Last year was a close one with 12 seconds separating the correct guess from the second closest guess. Last year we gave away a TIMEX IRONMAN Global Trainer and HR monitor. Fully wired, with GPS and all the latest goodies. Our sponsor Metro Run and Walk was good enough to donate it as well as a bunch of other stuff last year. Metro Run and Walk is located at 3522N. Grape Rd. 574-257-7867. If you guys see Dave ( tall handsome older guy) walking around at the race be sure to thank him for his support.
As always if you guys need to reach me for questions, or just want to vent about the upcoming presidential race give me a call on my cell phone, or email me.
Respect,
Senator Brett

Important info
Hello Runners!
I hope your training for this years run has gone smoothly and you are injury free for this years PC Trail Runs. We are hoping for ideal weather conditions, as the field for the race this year will be bigger than last year. The Tech shirts are in as well the finisher medals have been ordered. You will be able to have your name engraved onto the finisher medal as long as you are signed up by April 23rd. After that date you will still get the medal for the correct distance you were able to finish; it will not however, have your name engraved onto it.
DROP DOWNS: if during the course of running the event you feel it necessary to drop down to a shorter distance you may do so. Please announce your intentions at one of the three Aid Stations where the Aid Station captain will make note of it. Your finisher medal will not have your name engraved should you choose to drop down in distance.
Aid Stations: Are located no greater than 3.5 miles apart from each other. This year the A/S will have the mileage clearly marked at each. Also, in the final loop of the marathon, and the Ultra - runners must check in at each A/S. This is an effort to prevent any accidental course wanderings, and allows us to closer track the runners while out on the course.
During the final loop of the ultra distance the runners will be directed to make a cut in the course making the total distance close to 38 miles VS the 40 if they were to run a full three loops.
Garmin based maps will be up showing the cut for the final loop by the weekend.
The gates to the park will be open at 7 AM. Camping will be available.
Thanks for supporting local trail running events!
If you have questions, or need to speak to me feel free to call me at my cell 596-3860, or you can email me at senatorb9@gmail.com

Shirts are in!
OK so I just got word that the shirts are in! I'll get a picture up here ASAP!
Exciting stuff going on behind the scenes. Dave at Metro Run and Walk ( for all your running needs!) has helped the race again this year with getting the shirts ordered and printed. I'll stop by his store tomorrow and take a quick pic of the shirt and post it up here. Rest assured whatever the color the shirts are they WILL match Bill K's tights this year. :-)
